The distinguished feature of this laboratory is that it has clinical departments (Neurosurgery, Neurology, and Pathology) since its foundation. It is clear from such historical background, our interests have always been and are "human brain" and "its disease." BRI is the only institute belonging to a national university in Japan where many researchers who are interested in human brain diseases and are trying to overcome brain diseases gather. We use a variety of methods, including clinical, pathological, imaging, gene, model animals, biochemistry, and physiology. We have experts in all these fields. We also store a lot of brain tissue that many people have given us with great ambitions. These internationally renowned brain tissues have uncovered many human brain diseases. These brain tissues are "valuable assets of the world" that can't be replaced by anything. In this regard, we can say that BRI has been supported by the noble aspirations of many patients, their families, and related medical professionals. We are proud of being an international research institute that is rooted in such local communities, and we work hard, day and night, trying to be responsive to people's expectations.
