Revitalization in Tohoku In 2011, The Great Eastern Japan Earthquake triggered mega-tsunamis off the Pacific coast of Japan, and in turn a nuclear accident. The triple disasters resulted in damage of a scale unprecedented in the history of Japan. Tohoku University responded to the disaster by mobilizing medical staff and scientists to provide immediate expertise and support for the region. University staff and students were also dispatched to help with physical and logistical support. Three years on, we remain committed to our role in the recovery process.
